Patient Engagement and Education

The purpose of this website is to help guide and educate patients about their conditions, surgery and expectations. It is not meant to replace an actual consult with an Orthopaedic Surgeon, or offer medical advice, but will hopefully help make that interaction better by being better informed.

Our Treatments

Currently, Dr. Justin Chang is accepting new patients for elective hip and knee replacement surgery at Humber River Hospital. He also treats patients with sports injuries and complex fractures.

Robotic-Assisted Total Knee Replacement

A total knee replacement (or total knee arthroplasty) is a successful operation for end-stage knee arthritis.

Partial Knee Replacement

A partial knee replacement (unicompartmental arthroplasty) is a successful operation for end-stage knee arthritis isolated to a single compartment.

Total Hip Replacement

A total hip replacement (or total hip arthroplasty) is a successful operation for end-stage hip arthritis. The most common indication for a hip replacement is osteoarthritis, which is a degenerative disease that causes progressive loss of joint cartilage.

Revision Total Knee and Hip Replacement

Revision (re-do) total hip and knee replacements involve removing the original artificial joint (prosthesis) and implanting new components.

Trauma and Fracture Care

Orthopaedic trauma includes injury to the bones, joints, tendons, and ligaments. These injuries are often caused by a direct impact such as a fall, sporting injury, or car accident.

Knee Arthroscopy and Meniscal Surgery

The meniscus is a piece of cartilage that acts as a “shock absorber” between your femur (end of thigh bone) and tibia (top of shin bone).

Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) Reconstruction

The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is an important ligament that stabilises the knee. An ACL tear is a common injury in athletes who participate in pivoting sports.

Injections

Local knee and hip injections can be helpful in the early stages of arthritis. They are less effective in end-stage disease.

Dr. Justin S. Chang has a special interest in the outcomes of robotic joint replacement, virtual healthcare strategies, and the use of technology in orthopaedic surgery. He has a number of peer-reviewed publications and textbook chapters and has presented his research internationally. He also has a special interest in teaching and is a Clinical Lecturer at the University of Toronto.
